Sustainable, durable and circular
With these plant baskets for Velda, D’Andrea & Evers Design used various aspects of circular production. 100% recycled PP is applied for the basket itself and a biopolymer of rice straw for the integrated feeding spindle. The decorative structure of the basket, inspired by the natural pattern found in leaves, is an ideal facilitator of the injection-molding process. Thanks to its stackability, the baskets are space-efficient as well.
Unique design inspired by nature
We have been inspired by nature when designing this water plant basket. By using the natural structure found in leaves, we were able to develop a unique and sturdy plant basket that stands out from its competitors. In the design, we have also strived to optimise the strength and rigidity of the basket’s construction. We have designed the rim of the basket to be slightly thicker to provide more strength and body, for optimal durability of the product.
Biomimicry for optimal injection-molding
Biomimicry is the science and art of imitating the best biological ideas in nature to invent, improve and make more sustainable human applications. The natural leaf pattern turned out to be an ideal facilitator of the injection-molding process. The veins the leaves are shaped in the most sufficient way to transport and devide water within the plant. By using this structure in the bottom and walls of the plant basket, an optimal, smooth and homogeneous moldflow was created.
