Assignment

Design a high-end LED lightbar, for vehicles in the amber and blue market. The lightbar has to offer improved water resistance rating compared to previous versions. Its form language is catered to the European and American market to facilitate market entry. Clear communication and maximum visibility are key factors for the design of the lightbar.

A strong and robust lightbar that performs under the most severe circumstances

For the desired appearance we studied animal eye and body expressions. We merged the forms and lines with the modern design language of the automotive world and this resulted in the sharp design of the ‘Supervisor’ with its lifted end-units expressing alertness and authority.

Designed for water resistance

The crystal clear housing on the light lines emphasizes the powerful alert expression, but also indicates that the previous leakage problems have been resolved. Due to the integrated sealing and modular build, the highest Ingress Protection (IP) rating IP68 could be achieved. This means the lightbar can withstand water projected in powerful jets, continuous full immersion in water and protection form dust and other foreign bodies.

Clear communication and high visibility

Different light configurations and different product length are easy to realize, thanks to the modular system. The ‘Supervisor’ is optimized for maximum visibility and clear communication to other road users. Two extra light units at the front and back of the lightbar operate as day-light, interval, turning and braking-light. Functional flash patterns, directional, alley and spot light features support the user in every scenario.

The next evolutionary step towards a more human-centered design
